In the Duke Gallery: Landscape: Divergent Views

Curator’s Statement
The Philadelphia area is a vibrant place for art. I have been fortunate in getting to
know many artists who challenge my thinking about Landscape. I’ve spent four months
a year since 2001 working in plain air in Nova Scotia. It is always a pleasure to return to
this area and see the great diversity of approaches to the same subject.
Each artist in the show has found a way to use the materials of their choice to make
a contemporary statement through landscape. Wallingford’s large open space is a
perfect one in which to contrast the work of these artists and their various points of
view. I chose these 10 artists because, by steadfastly following their own paths, they
have inspired me to go further along my own.
