The 10th Annual Eddie Lang Day
Eddie Lang ( born Salvatore Massaro 1902-33 ) was known as ” the Father of Jazz Guitar” during the mid 1920s and into the early 1930s before his sudden and tragic death. He would influence generations of guitarists to follow including Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, Les Paul, and others. He was featured in various bands like Paul Whiteman’s Orchestra, Jean Goldkette, Roger Wolf Kahn, Duke Ellington, and can be heard on hundreds of recordings with various vocalists and bands during the Roaring 20s.
Blackbird Society Orchestra – an 11 pc authentic 1920s jazz band will host the event. The band was founded in 1997 and performs from a collection of original stock charts and arrangements used by the bands of the day.
Established in 2010 by band leader Richard Barnes, Eddie Lang Day honors his contributions to the music world with an annual concert highlighting his music along with other familiar and forgotten 20s songs.
Proceeds from this event will go to Bryn Mawr Hospital’s Hospice Program.
