The NIA Center in Chester, PA
The NIA Center is a nonprofit organization that provides artistic, educational, and cultural enrichment opportunities to the underserved children, youth and families of Chester Upland School Districit and vicinity. The CAC supports NIA’s mission by providing teaching artists for a number of their programs throughout the Chester Community, such as afterschool art classes at the Crozer Library and the Chester Apartments.
Beginning in 2013, the Community Arts Center began an afterschool art program in partnership with the Fire Station that focuses on collaborative, community-based art projects. Students in grades 3-5 from the Wallingford Elementary school that live in the South Media neighborhood meet once a week afterschool to create artworks such as mosaic stepping stones for their school’s garden and a mural for the Fire Station. The best thing about this program is that the kids get to use an empty fire truck bay as an art studio!
